Flowers in winter with long yellowish catkins. Male flowers longer and more "tassel-like"; female makes grape-like fruits commonly eaten in late summer by birds.

Deep green, leathery leaves make for a deer resistant, good hedge option. Does not like a soggy winter, so plant in dry area or on a mound. Though you might see "full sun", that's for cooler climate (like the coast where this plant comes from), so think part, non-afternoon sun for you inland urbanites.
