Redwood Sorel : Oxalis Oregana
Native to moist Pacific Northwest forests, this plant blankets cool, damp shadows.
A great ground cover in the shade, it only grows 2-4 inches tall. Pink and white flowers peak through the greenery in the spring and it's three heart shaped leaflets are sure to bring you lots of luck.
Just a taste of the leaves reveals a sour green apple flavor that comes from the oxalic acid for which it is named. In high quantities it can be toxic, but sampling one leaf each can be a fun treat.
