Native Strawberry : Fragaria vesca
Yes, this is a wild relation of the domesticated fruit that we know and love. If you do not love the sweet, sweet strawberry fruits - we respect and lament your plight.
Local native strawberries look similar to the farmed version, growing along trailing runners. Small white flowers bloom in the spring before bearing early season fruit.
This plant prefers moist, partial shade and/or well-drained clearnings.
Understandably, local people have eaten it for millenia, even using its leaves to make a tea rich in vitamin C.
