Height: 10 - 30'

Light: full sun to full shade

This shrub/smaller tree has sharp thorns to protect its plump black fruit. Its nature to form thickets makes for a great fortified hedge.

Cute five-petal flower clusters at branch tips are common in the late spring. There is a non-native English hawthorn that identity thieves this species sometimes.

Pruning is necessary unless your goal is the thicket hedge. Fruit medicinal.
