Pre-white folks, this tree dominated the Willamette Valley in oak woodlands and savannas. It supports hundreds of insects and other animals as well. Has a large taproot for anchor, and is a joy to watch grow even in its toddler and preteen days.
Susceptible to root rot in a watered lawn situation - so keep dry in summers (though a deep weekly watering in summer is recommended until more established).
